Datin Dr. Vijayalakshmi Samuel

Datin Dr. Vijayalakshmi Samuel has more than 25 years of experience in environmental, health & safety (EHS) and sustainability/ESG consulting services. She holds a PhD in Sustainability Studies, a Master’s degree in Biotechnology, an MBA and a Bachelor’s degree in Science, all of which were awarded by the University of Malaya. Currently, she is the CEO of AGV Sustainability & ESG Services Sdn. Bhd.; and a Director and Principal Consultant at AGV Environment Sdn. Bhd. Prior to AGV, she was employed at a US consulting firm for 18 years where she was a Partner during the last 3 years. In EHS consulting, she specializes in environmental and social impact assessments (EIAs), waste management, environmental due diligence, International Finance Corporation/World Bank and ADB environmental, environmental due diligence, environmental monitoring and compliance audits, site contamination assessment, and environmental suitability/feasibility studies. She is registered with the Department of Environment, Malaysia as an EIA Consultant and a Green Industry Auditor, and is a qualified Lead Auditor under the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. In the field of sustainability, she has been involved in providing ESG advisory services to public listed companies, government technical agencies and private limited companies. Her advisory services include working with companies to deliver ESG strategic solutions and insights to enable companies to achieve long-term value creation by operating in a sustainable and responsible manner. Specifically, her projects involve preparing sustainability reports including carbon footprint assessments, developing strategies that lead to long-term value creation, establishing sustainability roadmaps, undertaking stakeholder engagements and materiality assessments as well as capacity building to guide companies in their sustainability journey. For companies intending to be listed on ESG-linked indices, she has assisted them in improving their sustainability performance to become a listed constituent on the FTSE4Good Bursa Malaysia Index and FTSE4Good ASEAN Index. Having worked across a myriad of business and industrial sectors, she has sound knowledge of the arising environmental and social risks and opportunities arising especially climate risks. She has successfully completed projects in the Asia Pacific region including Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, India, Taiwan and Korea and, in Azerbaijan, South Africa and Australia. In 2019, she co-founded AGV Energy and Technology Sdn. Bhd. together with the Managing Director of the AGV Group to provide solutions for decarbonisation. One of the key projects of AGV Energy is HySustainÒ which involves the development of green hydrogen projects in Australia and Malaysia. HySustainÒ is a solution for decarbonisation as it enables industries to substitute their current grey hydrogen to green hydrogen which will result in significant reduction of their carbon footprint. This is in-line with global targets to become Net Zero by 2050.
